How to Get a Georgia Real Estate License

To earn a Georgia real estate license, you'll need to complete some basic requirements, take classes, and pass an exam. Start here to find out what you need.

Major Real Estate Markets in Georgia
2007 will be a strong year for real estate markets in the South. 12 of the top 20 hottest markets are south of the Mason-Dixon line, including Georgia's Atlanta-Marietta, which is expected to grow by 2.7% in 2007. Other major state markets include Valdosta, Columbus and Augusta.

Getting Your Georgia Real Estate License
To be a real estate agent in Georgia, you must be at least 18 and hold a high school diploma or the equivalent. To fulfill the educational requirements for a Georgia real estate license, you must pass a pre-licensing course from an approved school, complete six semester-hours of coursework for a real estate major from an accredited college, or complete a law school course in real property or contracts.

Georgia Real Estate License Exam
To become a real estate agent in Georgia, you must pass a standard exam. There is a $91 fee and results are valid for one year. If you have a criminal record, bring a copy of your criminal history with you to the testing location. Based on this history, the Real Estate Commission will decide whether to conduct an investigation before issuing a license.

Georgia's Continuing Educational Requirements
In the first year of licensure as a real estate agent, you must take a 25-hour post-license course. During each four-year renewal period after that, you must complete 24 hours of approved continuing education coursework.
